LIVE GOLD MARKET

Gold price, conversions and performance

Choose a currency, weight and timeframe to inspect the current reference price and a real historical series. Every successful response identifies its provider and observation time. When a provider does not supply a field such as bid or ask, GoldObserve labels it unavailable instead of estimating it.

Why unavailable?CSV becomes available only after a valid, source-labelled series loads.

What the spot gold price means

Spot gold is a wholesale market reference for gold available for prompt settlement, most commonly quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. It is useful for comparing metal value across markets, but it is not a guaranteed price at which a consumer can buy or sell a bar, coin or piece of jewellery.

Why the price changes by currency and unit

GoldObserve first keeps each observation on a troy-ounce basis, applies the selected foreign-exchange rate, and then converts it to grams or kilograms. One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams. Because metal and currency markets can move independently, the gold price in one currency may rise while its USD price is nearly unchanged.

Why karat prices are lower than 24K

Karat measures how much of an alloy is gold. A 22K item contains 22 parts gold out of 24, while 18K contains 18 parts out of 24. The purity table applies that fraction to the live 24K metal value per gram; it does not include craftsmanship, gemstones, brand value or dealer costs.

Spot price versus a retail or buyback quote

A physical product can trade above spot because fabrication, distribution, insurance, payment fees, local costs and dealer margin are added. A buyback offer can be below spot because testing, refining and resale costs may be deducted. Use the gold value calculator to keep metal value, retail premium and dealer payout as separate assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a live executable gold quote?

No. It is a market reference that may be delayed. A dealer or trading venue supplies the executable price for a specific transaction.

Why are bid, ask, high or low sometimes unavailable?

Not every eligible provider supplies every market field. GoldObserve only shows those values when they are present in the provider response.

Does the historical chart use invented points?

No. The chart displays returned historical observations after currency and unit conversion. Display sampling may reduce visual density, but it does not create intermediate prices.

How often can the price update?

Spot responses may be cached for up to 60 seconds. The provider timestamp and freshness label show the context of the observation currently displayed.
