CALCULATORS

Jewelry Value Calculator

Estimate gold jewelry metal value, making charges, declared gemstone value, tax and a metal-only buyback scenario with live prices.

JEWELRY PURCHASE + RESALE MODEL

Separate gold content from making charges, stones, tax and buyback terms

Build a transparent jewelry value estimate from a source-labelled gold price. Deduct measured non-gold weight, choose the gold purity, add a percentage, per-gram or flat making charge, enter any independently declared gemstone value and apply your own tax rate. A separate metal-only buyback scenario prevents retail additions from being mistaken for recoverable gold value.

RETAIL BUILD-UP ASSUMPTIONS

Add charges without hiding the metal value

Enter the terms that apply to the quote you are modeling. No local tax or making-charge rate is assumed for you.

OPTIONAL QUOTE COMPARISON

Compare a jeweler's quoted total

The difference is descriptive only. It does not decide whether a quote is fair or appraise craftsmanship, brand or stones.

How the jewelry value calculation works

The worksheet begins with physical mass and gold content. It subtracts the measured weight of stones or non-gold parts from gross weight, converts the remaining alloy weight by Karat and values the calculated pure-gold grams at the selected spot reference. Retail additions are then shown as separate lines.

1

Find gold-bearing weightGross item weight − measured stones and non-gold parts. Do not estimate a deduction when you do not have a defensible weight.

2

Apply purityGold-alloy grams × Karat ÷ 24. Ten grams of 18K alloy contains 7.5 calculated grams of gold.

3

Calculate raw metal valueCalculated pure-gold grams × the live 24K price per gram in the selected currency.

4

Add transaction-specific amountsMaking charge, declared gemstone or other value and tax remain visible rather than being folded into an unexplained total.

Purchase value, appraisal value and resale value are different questions

The modeled purchase total is an arithmetic build-up based on the assumptions entered. It is not an insurance appraisal, estate valuation or authentication report. Brand, design, condition, age, rarity, craftsmanship and provenance can affect a professional appraisal but are not inferred by this calculator.

Gemstones require their own evidence

A stone's value cannot be derived from the jewelry's total weight or gold spot price. Identification, treatment, quality, cut and marketability can matter. The calculator therefore accepts only a value supplied by you or another source and labels it as declared rather than estimated.

Why making charges have three modes

A seller may quote fabrication as a percentage of metal value, an amount per gram or a flat amount. Select the mode that matches the actual quote. The tool supplies no regional default because commercial practice and tax treatment differ across sellers and jurisdictions.

How to compare a retail jewelry quote

  • Ask whether the quoted weight includes stones and other non-gold components.
  • Confirm whether the stated purity is Karat or millesimal fineness and whether it was tested.
  • Record whether the making charge is percentage-based, per gram or a fixed amount.
  • Keep gemstone pricing, certificates, warranties and optional services on separate lines.
  • Apply only the tax rate and taxable base relevant to the actual transaction.
  • Compare quotes using the same spot timestamp, currency, product details and settlement terms.

Frequently asked questions

Does the result tell me what my jewelry is worth?

It models the inputs you provide. It does not authenticate the item, grade gemstones or determine brand, collectible, auction, insurance or replacement value.

Should stone weight be subtracted?

Subtract only a measured or supportable non-gold weight. Treating the full gross weight as gold alloy can overstate metal value, while guessing a stone weight can understate it.

What is included in the metal-only buyback result?

It applies your payout percentage to calculated gold metal value only. Making charges, tax and declared gemstone value are excluded unless a buyer separately offers value for them.

Does the calculator choose a tax rate?

No. Tax rules vary by jurisdiction and transaction. The default is zero and any rate entered is your assumption.

Can I compare a shop quote?

Yes. The optional quote field shows its difference from your modeled purchase total and its percentage above raw metal value without labelling the quote fair or unfair.
