METRIC GOLD CONVERSION

Chinese Gold Panda Grams vs Troy Ounces

Use the exact troy-ounce definition to compare the metric Panda range without treating 30 grams as a one-ounce coin.

METRIC SERIES GUIDE

Thirty fine grams equals about 0.964522 troy ounce—not one ounce

The modern Gold Panda uses gram-denominated fine-gold weights. Because one troy ounce is exactly 31.1034768 grams, a 30 gram Panda contains about 3.55% less fine gold than a nominal one-ounce bullion coin. Normalize both products to the same fine-weight unit before comparing prices.

REPRODUCIBLE CONVERSION

Divide fine grams by 31.1034768

For the 30 gram coin: 30 ÷ 31.1034768 = 0.964522397 fine troy ounce. A dealer ask per coin divided by that result gives the effective acquisition price per fine troy ounce before any additional costs.

2015–2016 BOUNDARY

The metric change should not be backdated onto every Panda

China Gold Coin Group states that the 2015 issue omitted the customary weight and fineness markings and that the 2016 Panda gold coins were the series' first marked with gram units. That makes the date and inscription part of product identity. A listing that calls an older ounce-era coin “30 g” for convenience still needs the official record for that year.

This page does not claim that the series' metal standard, designs or available sizes were otherwise identical across the boundary. It isolates only the source-backed marking change.

COMPARISON METHOD

Compare products on fine gold and complete cost, not the size nickname

  1. Verify the marked year and obtain its official specification.
  2. Convert both products to fine grams or fine troy ounces using one consistent precision.
  3. Add premium, payment fee, delivery, tax and other acquisition costs.
  4. Request a written exit bid or buyback method for each exact product.
  5. Keep collectible value separate unless supported by comparable transactions for the date, finish and grade.
