CHINESE METRIC GOLD COIN

Chinese Gold Panda Value, Sizes & Specifications

Calculate current melt value from official metric weights, then separate denomination, dealer premium, buyback bid and collector value.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Price the fine grams first, then investigate the exact coin

A current Chinese Gold Panda is not automatically a one-ounce coin. The 2026 ordinary gold range uses 30, 15, 8, 3 and 1 gram fine-gold weights, all specified as .999 fine. Metal value begins with those fine grams converted at exactly 31.1034768 grams per troy ounce; retail premium, dealer bid, condition and collector demand remain separate.

WORKING VALUE TOOL

Calculate melt, premium, payout and break-even in renminbi

The calculator opens on the official 30 gram preset. It uses a labelled live CNY gold observation when available and permits an explicit manual price when it is not. Any dealer ask, bid or payout percentage remains your input rather than a fabricated market quote.

The official announcement calls these ordinary gold commemorative coins and separately lists proof issues. Do not transfer a proof mintage, packaging claim or collector premium onto an ordinary bullion-format listing simply because both carry a Panda design.

FOUR VALUE LAYERS

A correct quote names the question it answers

1 / MELTFine grams ÷ 31.1034768 × spot

A same-time metal reference.

2 / RETAIL ASKMelt + complete acquisition cost

Premium, payment, delivery and tax.

3 / BUYBACK BIDWritten executable offer

For the exact year, size and quantity.

4 / COLLECTOR VALUESeparate market evidence

Date, finish, grade and demand may matter.

The denomination does not replace any of these layers. Likewise, a maximum mintage is a ceiling, not evidence that every authorized coin was produced or that rarity creates a predictable premium.

IDENTITY BEFORE PRICE

Record year, weight, finish and seller evidence before comparing offers

  1. Match the year and product type to an official announcement; ordinary and proof coins are different products.
  2. Record the marked weight, fineness, denomination and measured diameter without inventing a tolerance.
  3. Request the complete delivered ask and a same-time gold reference in the same currency.
  4. Ask for a written buyback method for the same product, not a generic “up to” percentage.
  5. Preserve invoice, seller identity, photographs and custody history; escalate uncertainty to non-destructive professional testing.

FAQ

Chinese Gold Panda value questions

How much gold is in a 30 gram Chinese Gold Panda?

The official 2026 ordinary 30 gram coin is specified as 30 grams of .999 fine gold. Dividing 30 by the exact NIST troy-ounce definition gives about 0.964522 fine troy ounce.

Is a 30 gram Gold Panda the same as a one-ounce gold coin?

No. One troy ounce is exactly 31.1034768 grams, so a 30 gram Panda contains about 3.55% less fine gold than a one-troy-ounce coin.

Does the face value determine a Gold Panda's market value?

No. The yuan denomination establishes a monetary field on the legal-tender coin, while metal value starts with fine-gold weight multiplied by a same-time gold price. Premium and collector value are separate.

Is maximum mintage the number actually produced?

No. A maximum mintage is an upper limit in the issue announcement. It should not be relabelled as final production without a separate official production record.

Can this calculator authenticate a Chinese Gold Panda?

No. It calculates metal and transaction values from documented specifications and entered prices. Authentication requires the exact year and type, provenance, measurements and appropriate expert testing.
