How many grams are in one tael of gold?
It depends on the convention. GoldObserve uses 37.429 grams for the Hong Kong troy tael and 37.5 grams for the Taiwan tael. The selected convention must appear beside any price.
Is a Hong Kong tael the same as a Taiwan tael?
No. The difference is 0.071 gram per tael. It looks small, but it scales across multi-tael bars and should never be hidden by a generic tael label.
How many mace are in one tael?
Ten. One Hong Kong troy mace is 3.7429 grams; one Taiwan mace is 3.75 grams under the respective conventions.
How is gold price per tael calculated?
Multiply the source-labelled fine-gold price per gram by 37.429 for a Hong Kong tael or 37.5 for a Taiwan tael, then apply documented purity and add retail costs separately.
Is one tael the same as one troy ounce?
No. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. A Hong Kong tael is about 1.20337 troy ounces and a Taiwan tael is about 1.20565 troy ounces.
Can I calculate in HKD and TWD?
Yes. The converter requests source-labelled HKD or TWD gold data and shows provider status and observation time. Manual price entry remains explicit if live data is unavailable.
Why does a jewellery-shop tael quote differ from metal value?
Purity, workmanship, tax, brand, payment, inventory and dealer margin can raise the ask. The exit bid can also deduct assay, condition or packaging costs.
Does GoldObserve provide historical HKD or TWD tael prices?
