Before paying, capture product form, gross grams, fineness, sell price, same-time buy price, fabrication charge, payment method, delivery status and the rule for damaged or altered jewelry.
TAX AND RULE BOUNDARY
Do not apply one VAT statement to every gold product or channel
Thailand's Revenue Department publishes specific conditions for registered operators seeking VAT exemption on imports or sales of gold that has not been made into ornaments or finished articles. That is not a universal consumer exemption statement. Jewelry, workmanship, seller status, import, tourist refund eligibility and documentation can lead to different treatment.
Government reporting in December 2025 also described proposed tighter oversight of online gold trading. Because implementation details can change, this page does not hard-code a transaction cap or tax outcome. Check the current Revenue Department, Bank of Thailand and platform notices before relying on a rule.

How many grams are in one baht of Thai gold?
The Thai Gold Traders Association states 15.244 grams for one baht of gold bullion and 15.16 grams for one baht of gold jewelry. The product type must be stated with the weight.
Is gold baht weight the same as Thai baht currency?
No. Baht is both Thailand's currency name, THB, and a traditional gold weight. A complete quote identifies both: for example, THB per one bullion baht weight.
What is one salung of gold?
One salung is one quarter of a baht weight. Using the bullion convention it is 3.811 grams; using the jewelry convention it is 3.79 grams.
What purity is commonly used for Thai gold?
The Thai Gold Traders Association describes 96.5% as Thailand's standard purity. That is 965 fineness, approximately 23.16 karat, and is not the same as 99.99% fine gold.
How is a Thai gold reference value calculated?

Why is a gold shop price different from converted spot?
A local board or product quote can include purity conventions, fabrication, workmanship, inventory, payment terms and dealer spread. A converted wholesale reference is not an executable shop bid or ask.
