THE SHORT ANSWER
Use one dated EUR observation, then separate metal value from the French transaction
The gold price in France begins with euros per fine troy ounce. Divide by 31.1034768 for euros per fine gram, multiply by verified fine content, then add the actual product premium and costs. VAT qualification at purchase and precious-metals tax at sale are separate legal questions; neither belongs inside an unlabeled spot price.
Provider and observation time stay visible.
Exact troy conversion, not a rounded ounce.
Exact product and invoice control treatment.
Records can materially change the analysis.
LIVE EUR WORKSPACE
Value fine gold without inventing a French retail premium

Checking the current market reference.
Measure premium, discount and break-even spot
Enter the purchase price or buyer offer for one coin. Negative premium means the entered price is below calculated melt value.
Compare official fine-gold contents
| Coin | Fine gold | Fineness | Melt value | Source |

Preset specifications are product references from the named official mints. Verify the exact year, variant and authenticity of the coin before a transaction. One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams.
CURRENCY EFFECT
French gold can rise when dollar gold is flat
EUR gold combines a dollar-metal leg and a foreign-exchange leg. Match timestamps and quote direction: EUR gold per ounce is approximately USD gold per ounce multiplied by EUR per USD.
Enter comparable gold and exchange-rate values
Use the same dates and one consistent exchange-rate convention.
Local return = (1 + USD gold return) × (1 + local-currency-per-USD return) - 1.
Market translation only. Physical premiums, dealer spreads, tax, delivery, storage and observation-time differences are not inferred.

PRICE STACK
A French physical quote has more layers than spot
Verified fine ounces times same-time EUR reference.
Fabrication, mint, denomination and packaging.
Inventory, hedge, service and margin.
VAT treatment follows the exact legal classification.
Payment, insured shipping and custody.
Bid, testing, fees and applicable sale-tax route.
Record an ask and simultaneous bid for the exact same item. Use the dealer offer comparison and buy/sell spread calculator rather than assuming the purchase premium will be recovered.
RECORDS BEFORE RETURNS
The invoice can matter as much as the entry price
French law permits an alternative capital-gain route only under evidence conditions. A dated invoice that identifies the exact bar or coin, quantity, acquisition price and buyer can therefore affect both resale confidence and tax analysis. Keep payment evidence, delivery records, serial or assay identifiers where present, and any inheritance or gift documents.
A low cash quote with weak documentation can be economically worse than a slightly higher documented transaction. The distinction is not theoretical: without probative acquisition evidence, the price-based flat levy may remain the practical reference even when the economic gain is small.

FAQ
France gold-price questions
What is the gold price in France today?
GoldObserve displays a source-labelled EUR reference per fine troy ounce and converts the same observation to fine grams. It is not a French dealer's executable ask or bid.
How do I calculate gold per gram in euros?
Divide the EUR price per fine troy ounce by exactly 31.1034768. For an alloyed object, multiply gross grams by fineness divided by 1,000 before applying the fine-gram reference.
Is investment gold exempt from VAT in France?
Qualifying investment gold is covered by the EU special scheme as implemented in France. Bars and coins use different statutory tests; not every gold product qualifies.
Is the French sale tax included in the live price?
No. A market reference is a metal value. A later transfer can have separate French tax, dealer spread, assay, shipping and settlement consequences.
