2024 REPORTED OUNCES / VALUE / 2025 SHARE

Nevada Gold Production & Mining Data

Reconcile state-reported ounces with production value and the later federal share estimate without turning rounded percentages into false precision.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Nevada produced 3.48 million troy ounces of gold in 2024

Nevada's official 2024 major-mines report records 3,479,748 troy ounces, 13.7% below 2023, yet calculated gold value rose 6.4% to about $8.293 billion as prices increased. USGS still identifies Nevada as the leading state and assigns it about 64% of estimated 2025 U.S. output.

VALUE PARADOX

Fewer ounces did not mean lower gross production value

Major Mines of Nevada multiplies reported mined amounts by cited average monthly prices to calculate approximately $8.293 billion of 2024 gold value, up 6.4% even though ounces fell. NBMG's industry summary reports $8.351 billion for gold. The small difference is a reason to retain the exact source and method, not a reason to force reconciliation.

WHY NEVADA LEADS

Production is concentrated in large operations and established districts

The current Nevada active-mines publication combines state production reports with NBMG industry research and maps sites that met its production-activity definition. Activity can include extraction as well as continued production from leach pads, reprocessed tailings or stockpiles. That distinction matters when counting “active mines.”

Nevada's leadership is therefore best measured by reported recoverable gold and national share, not by a raw count of claims. A claim, exploration target, permitted project, active extraction site and producing operation are different states of development.

FEDERAL COMPARISON

The 64% share creates an approximation, not an official state total

Applying “about 64%” to the rounded 160-tonne U.S. estimate gives roughly 102.4 tonnes or 3,292,236 troy ounces. GoldObserve labels that figure derived. It should not replace the state's own annual ounces or be compared as though both observations had identical cutoffs.

The state 2024 result converts to 108.2 tonnes. The difference between that observation and the rough 2025 allocation can reflect real production change, rounding, timing and revision. The source does not support assigning a single cause.

RESEARCH CHECKLIST

Five checks before quoting a Nevada production number

  1. Identify calendar year and release date.
  2. Confirm whether ounces are reported, estimated or derived from a rounded share.
  3. Distinguish recoverable content from ore tonnes, gold equivalent and doré weight.
  4. Keep production quantity separate from calculated or gross-proceeds value.
  5. Use operation-level disclosures only for the exact ownership and period they cover.

FAQ

Nevada gold mining questions

How much gold did Nevada produce in 2024?

Major Mines of Nevada 2024 reports 3,479,748 troy ounces, down 13.7% from 4,030,556 ounces in 2023.

What was Nevada's 2024 gold production worth?

The Nevada publication calculates $8.293 billion from reported mined ounces and monthly average prices. NBMG separately reports $8.351 billion for gold in its broader 2024 industry summary. Keep the source and valuation method attached.

What share of U.S. gold comes from Nevada?

The USGS 2026 summary says Nevada accounted for about 64% of estimated 2025 domestic output. That rounded share should not be converted into a false exact state total.

Why did Nevada gold value rise when ounces fell?

The state report shows ounces down 13.7% from 2023 but calculated value up 6.4%, illustrating how annual price changes can outweigh lower physical production.

Does a list of active Nevada mines prove current output?

No. A map or registry establishes the source's activity definition and date. Production can continue from leach pads, stockpiles or tailings after extraction changes, and individual output may be confidential or revised.
