Gold Price in Singapore Today

Follow a source-labelled Singapore-dollar gold reference, compare ounce, gram and kilogram values, then test investment-precious-metal conditions, GST treatment, physical premium, buyback and break-even.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use the SGD metal reference first; classify the exact product before applying GST

Singapore gold value begins with the international fine-gold price translated into Singapore dollars. Divide the per-troy-ounce reference by 31.1034768 for fine gold per gram, then apply the product's verified purity. A real purchase adds premium and transaction costs. GST depends on whether the exact product meets every investment-precious-metal condition; 999.9 fineness alone does not decide exemption.

HOW SGD GOLD IS FORMED

Singapore gold can move because gold changed, the currency changed, or both changed

TRANSLATION MODELUSD gold per ounce × SGD per USD = SGD gold per ounce

The live endpoint returns the translated observation; the formula explains the two market legs.

If the U.S.-dollar gold price is unchanged while one U.S. dollar buys more Singapore dollars, the SGD gold reference rises. If gold rises while USD/SGD falls, the currency move offsets part of the metal move. Percentages compound, so adding the two percentage changes is only an approximation when both are large. Product premium and GST do not belong inside this currency formula.

The scenario numbers are editable examples, not forecasts or historical observations. GoldObserve does not apply today's USD/SGD exchange rate backwards to manufacture a Singapore-dollar price history. A valid historical SGD series requires gold and FX observations matched by date under documented reuse rights.

OUNCE, GRAM & KILOGRAM

Convert weight before comparing a Singapore quote

ReferenceExact relationshipCommon mistake
Fine troy ounce31.1034768 fine-gold gramsSubstituting the 28.349523125 g ordinary ounce
Fine gramSGD per fine oz ÷ 31.1034768Treating gross product mass as fine gold

Fine kilogram1,000 g or about 32.1507466 troy ozAssuming every kilobar has the same purity or tax status

A 100-gram 999.9 bar contains 99.99 fine-gold grams. A 10-gram 22K item using a 916 fineness convention contains 9.16 fine-gold grams before stones or non-gold parts are excluded. Always identify whether a dealer's weight is gross product mass or stated fine content.

IPM BAR, INGOT & WAFER TEST

Four conditions must work together for the GST exemption

IRAS states that the import and local supply of qualifying investment precious metals are exempt from GST. For a gold bar, ingot or wafer, the calculator expresses the published criteria as a decision sequence. Passing one box cannot compensate for failing another.

01At least 99.5% gold

Purity must be 0.995 or higher; a 22K jewellery item fails at the first step.

02Internationally tradeable

For gold and silver, current or former LBMA Good Delivery refiner status is the stated route.

03Accepted quality mark

An internationally accepted mark must support the product's quality claim.

04Not decorative or collectible

Hangers, holes, odd shapes and collector presentation can make a high-purity product non-IPM.

The rule is product-specific. A small bar is not itself an LBMA Good Delivery wholesale bar, but IRAS uses refiner accreditation and accepted marks to evaluate whether the retail bar is capable of international bullion-market trading. Verify the exact refiner against the current or former LBMA lists and retain the product documentation; do not infer qualification from a familiar logo or seller claim.

IPM COIN TEST

Legal tender and the prescribed list both matter

ConditionWhat to verifyWhat does not prove it
PurityAt least 99.5% goldGold color, weight or marketing name
Legal-tender statusThe coin is or was legal tender in its country of originA private round that resembles a coin
Prescribed statusThe exact coin appears on the current IRAS IPM listAnother year, finish or related series qualifying
Collector boundaryUse the exact prescribed specification and invoiceProof or numismatic scarcity being called bullion

A coin can carry a higher premium because of minting, distribution, recognition and condition. That commercial premium is separate from GST classification. Compare the total cash price and a same-time dealer buyback for the exact coin, not a generic ounce.

EXEMPT IS NOT ZERO-RATED

Use the correct Singapore GST language

SupplyGeneral treatmentDecision boundary
Local qualifying IPMExempt supplyExact product must satisfy the IPM conditions
Imported qualifying IPMExempt from import GSTIRAS notes an Exemption Permit through TradeNet is still required for import
Exported IPMZero-rated when requirements and export evidence are metZero-rated and exempt are different GST categories
Non-IPM productTaxable under the applicable rules; calculator defaults to 9%High fineness alone does not create exemption

IRAS requires a separate invoice for an exempt IPM supply. For a bar, ingot or wafer, the invoice description includes metal type, weight, purity, refiner, unique serial number where applicable and unit price. For a coin, it includes metal type, coin name, weight and unit price. The calculator estimates cost; the supplier's valid invoice supports the actual treatment.

PHYSICAL PRICE STACK

A “low premium” can still produce a costly exit

01Metal reference

Fine-gold content × the same-time SGD reference.

02Product premium

Fabrication, minting, wholesale supply, inventory and dealer margin.

03Product and payment costs

Packaging, card or transfer fees, delivery, insurance and storage setup.

04GST treatment

Exempt qualifying IPM or taxable non-IPM based on the actual supply.

05Dealer buyback

The executable bid for the exact refiner, coin, size, quantity and condition.

06Exit friction

Testing, assay, damage, transport, account, storage and withdrawal costs.

Suppose two one-ounce products cost 4% and 6% above metal. The first is not automatically cheaper to own if its local buyback is materially weaker. Compare all-in acquisition minus net immediate buyback on the same timestamp. Break-even then shows the future gold reference needed to close that gap only if the entered buyback percentage remains unchanged.

DEALER & CUSTOMER CHECKS

Registration is verifiable; cash reporting is not a price penalty

Singapore's Ministry of Law regulates businesses dealing in precious stones, precious metals and qualifying precious products under the PSPM regime. Its public directory lets buyers check registered dealers and identify suspended or cancelled registrations. Registration does not guarantee an investment, price, solvency or buyback, but an unverifiable seller claim is a reason to stop.

S$20,000 CASH BOUNDARYCash or cash-equivalent transactions exceeding S$20,000 trigger CTR duties.

MinLaw states the report is due within 15 business days; splitting related payments does not erase transaction context.

CUSTOMER DUE DILIGENCEA dealer may request identity and beneficial-owner information.

Prescribed circumstances and suspicion can require checks even when a buyer prefers anonymity.

REGISTERED-DEALER LISTVerify the legal entity, not only a shop name or website.

Match the invoice, payment beneficiary and registration record before transferring funds.

SUSPICIOUS TRANSACTIONSReporting duties are risk-based as well as threshold-based.

A buyer should not treat compliance questions as proof of a higher product price or an accusation.

CUSTODY & EXIT

Allocated metal, pooled claims and home storage carry different risks

Holding methodEvidence to requestRisk to examine
Take deliveryInvoice, serial, assay packaging, weight and condition recordTheft, insurance, verification and future transport
Allocated vaultSpecific bar or coin ownership, audit, insurance and withdrawal termsOperator, sub-custodian, jurisdiction, fees and access delay
Unallocated or pooled claimContract, creditor status, redemption mechanics and audited balancesCounterparty exposure and possible lack of specific-metal title
Dealer storage programOwnership terms, segregation, audit, insurance and buyback formulaWithdrawal spread, minimums, lock-in and company wind-down

SBMA's retail principles emphasize fairness, price and term transparency, protection of customer assets, responsible sourcing, regulatory compliance, commercial prudence and operational professionalism. Use those as questions, then verify the written contract. A label or association relationship does not replace custody evidence.

SINGAPORE BUYING CHECKLIST

Record enough detail to reproduce the decision later

01Record the SGD gold reference, provider, observation time, unit and freshness state.

02Identify product form, gross weight, exact fineness, refiner or mint, serial and condition.

03For a bar, verify all four IPM conditions and the applicable LBMA refiner-list evidence.

04For a coin, verify legal-tender status and the exact current prescribed IPM listing.

05Request an itemized invoice showing the supplier, product and GST treatment.

06Add premium, product cost, payment, delivery, insurance and storage to the acquisition total.

07Obtain a same-time written buyback and list every condition that can reduce it.

08Verify dealer registration, payment beneficiary, custody title, audit and withdrawal rights.

09Plan identification and payment method before a large transaction.

10Keep invoice, proof of payment, serial, photographs, custody records and exit quotes together.

SOURCES & SCOPE

Singapore rules, market data and dealer economics remain separate layers

Live values come from the provider displayed beside the observation through GoldObserve's market endpoint. The calculator does not verify LBMA status, inspect marks, identify a coin, authenticate gold, provide tax or legal advice, guarantee a dealer quote, decide import compliance or predict prices. Missing live data remains unavailable until a user enters a clearly labelled scenario.

FAQ

Singapore gold price, GST and buying questions

What is the gold price in Singapore today?

GoldObserve displays the latest source-labelled gold reference available in Singapore dollars per fine troy ounce and converts the same observation to grams, ten grams, 100 grams and kilograms. It is a metal reference, not a dealer's executable bid or ask.

How is the Singapore gold price per gram calculated?

Divide the SGD price per fine troy ounce by 31.1034768. For a product below pure-gold fineness, multiply the fine-gold gram price by its documented purity. Retail premium, GST, delivery and buyback remain separate.

Is investment gold exempt from GST in Singapore?

The import and local supply of qualifying investment precious metals are exempt from GST. A gold bar, ingot or wafer must meet every IRAS condition, including at least 99.5% purity, international bullion-market tradability, an internationally accepted quality mark and a non-decorative, non-collector form.

Is every 999.9 gold bar GST exempt?

No. Purity is only one test. A decorative bar, a bar from an unqualified refiner, a product without an accepted quality mark or another product that fails the IRAS conditions can remain taxable even when its gold fineness is high.

Are gold coins exempt from GST in Singapore?

Only coins meeting the IPM coin rules qualify. The coin must contain at least 99.5% gold, be or have been legal tender, and be on the prescribed IPM coin list. Proof or numismatic coins cannot be assumed exempt.

What is the GST rate for non-IPM gold products?

Singapore's prevailing GST rate is 9%. A GST-registered supplier generally applies the appropriate treatment to taxable non-IPM products such as jewellery, scrap and qualifying failures. The exact supply and invoice determine the result.

Why can a Singapore dealer price differ from converted spot?

A physical quote can include fabrication, brand or coin premium, inventory, payment, delivery, insurance, storage, GST where applicable and dealer margin. The buyback is a separate bid and can be below the metal reference.

Will a Singapore gold dealer request identification?

Regulated dealers have customer-due-diligence and reporting duties in prescribed circumstances. Singapore's Ministry of Law states that cash or cash-equivalent transactions exceeding S$20,000 require a Cash Transaction Report, and dealers can request identifying information under the regulatory regime.
